Commercial Dog Photography - German Shorthair Pointers by Holly Hildreth

Commercial pet photography of a German Shorthair Pointer dog running and playing with a toy showing a pet product in use

I recently had the pleasure of photographing four gorgeous German Shorthair Pointer dogs for a commercial client project. The client needed some really high-quality professional images of this particular breed of dog for an upcoming product they are making.

We held our photo shoot at Hoover Reservoir park in northeast Columbus, Ohio. I chose this park specifically because we could get a good variety of backgrounds and “looks” without having to go to multiple locations. The east side of the lake gave us plenty of natural backgrounds to work with like a field of tall grass and woods, and then the west side of the lake gave use great shoreline access so we could get a few shots of the dogs playing in the water at the end of our photo shoot.

Funny commercial animal photography of a German Shorthair Pointer dog running toward the camera. His tongue is hanging out of his mouth and ears are flapping in the wind, giving him a humorous expression

I also wanted to get a variety of poses for the client to choose from. I made sure to get action shots of the dogs playing with toys and running happily through the park, as well as more formal “posed” portraits of the dogs by themselves and together.

While I can’t yet share the final product with you yet, I am very much looking forward to seeing my work in stores!

Commercial pet photography may not immediately come to mind when you’re working on your pet brand, but in today's competitive pet industry, high-quality animal photography is key to standing out. Whether you're launching a new pet product, refreshing your website and marketing materials, or need some eye-catching images for your socials, commercial animal photography can elevate your brand's reputation and help you connect with your audience.

Professional dog photographers understand how to capture the unique personalities of dogs while showcasing your products in the best light. Visuals like these can make your marketing materials, social media, ads, and packaging more engaging, which in turn boosts customer trust and loyalty. Stunning images can convey the essence of your brand in seconds, helping you leave a lasting impression on pet owners.

Dawes Arboretum Engagement Photo Shoot with a Couple and their Dog | Ohio Professional Pet Photographer by Holly Hildreth

A beautiful young couple crouch down in a Japanese garden to pet their dog during their engagement photo shoot at Dawes Arboretum in Newark. Photographed by Central Ohio Dog Photographer Holly Hildreth

Your engagement photos should reflect your love story and the excitement of this new chapter together. Since your dog is a key part of your story, including them in your engagement photos just makes sense! It adds a layer of warmth and authenticity that’s hard to replicate, making the photos uniquely you.

An engaged couple and their dog sitting on a bridge over a lake at Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio. The lighting is dramatic with dark blue sky and vibrant colors, which is the signature style of professional dog photographer Holly Hildreth

One reason why your dog should be in your engagement pictures is because they make the experience so much more fun! There is much less pressure on you when your dog is involved, as dogs have a way of bringing out the most authentic emotions in us. These unscripted moments lead to amazing candid photos that show genuine smiles and expressions.

During this photo shoot, scruffy little Mason here made sure both his dog-parents were having a good time while we shot. He was a little clown and would sneak in to steal puppy kisses. This always ended up in all of us laughing at his goofy antics. My favorite face licking photo is below of Mason and his mom together surrounded by wildflowers.

Portrait of a dog and owner. The woman is smiling and laughing as her scruffy dog licks her face. She is laying in a field of wildflowers in front of a lake during a dog photo shoot at Dawe's Arboretum in Newark, Ohio.

One important factor in making your engagement photos truly special is to incorporate a location that you, your partner, and your dog all enjoy. For this session the couple chose to be photographed at the amazingly beautiful Dawe’s Arboretum in Newark, Ohio. There were so many gorgeous spots to photograph in this park, but we spent a majority of our session shooting around the Japanese garden area. It was super hot, so the large shade trees of the garden gave us some relief from the scorching summer sun.

This was my first time visiting Dawe’s Arboretum, and I loved how dog-friendly it is! Most botanical garden type parks in the Columbus area do not allow dogs. So it was a nice breath of fresh air to discover that Dawe’s encourages people to visit with their dogs. I know I’m excited to go back with my own dogs soon!

In the end, your engagement photos will not only document this big life milestone, but also capture the love and joy that your dog brings into your life. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate your love story, one that includes all the members of your family—furry ones included.

Ohio Puppy Photography - Winnie the Golden by Holly Hildreth

Golden Retriever puppy by a stream in New Albany, Ohio, during a professional pet photography session

One frequently asked question I get is “Can you photograph young puppies?” Clients worry that their new wiggly ball of fluff won’t sit still long enough to have their picture taken. But here’s the secret: they don’t have to! With puppy sessions we will go with the flow and make sure it’s a fun and stress-free experience for your puppy. They may even blissfully fall asleep at the end of our shoot like 8 week old Winnie the golden retriever puppy here.

Professional pet photography session of an 8 week old Golden Retriever puppy in flower garden at Rose Run Park in New Albany, Ohio

Your pup's adorable antics and charm deserve to be preserved forever. Puppies grow up so fast! That's why investing in professional pet photography while your new pet is still a young puppy is a great choice.

Professional pet photographers specialize in capturing the unique personality and quirks of your puppy. They know how to bring out the best in their subjects, whether it's their playful spirit, curious nature, or heart-melting puppy dog eyes.

Puppies can be super wiggly at this age, so keeping them on leash is always a good idea. I will photoshop the leash out after our session so it looks like your sweet little fluff ball was running free, when in reality she is safe and leashed the whole time. That means there’s one less thing to worry about during your session!

Plus, the experience of a professional pet photoshoot is enjoyable for both you and your puppy. It's a chance to bond, create lasting memories, and have fun capturing moments that reflect the joy your puppy brings to your life.

3 Samoyed Session - Ohio Commercial Pet Photography by Holly Hildreth

What’s better than one fluffy polar bear-looking dog? How about 3? I had the pleasure of working with these 3 Samoyeds during a professional pet photography session at Rocky Fork Metro Park in New Albany. During our shoot we took advantage of the blooming wildflowers in the park, which made for a spectacular background.

Besides photographing people’s personal pets, I also offer commercial pet photography services. I photographed these 3 dogs for a commercial client that needed high-quality photos of Samoyed dogs for a product they are making. Through a model call I was able to connect with the owners of these 3 beautiful babies, who rocked their session.

Meet Remedy

The #1 Female Briard in the US

One thing I love about my job is getting to meet and photograph rare dog breeds. This majestic muppet is Remedy. Remedy is a Briard--and not just any Briard...she's rocking the dog show world as the #1 female Briard in the country!

Most people have likely never heard of the Briard dog breed before. These French herding dogs have quite the unique appearance with luscious locks for days (is it wrong to be jealous of a dog's hair?) Briards are intelligent, active dogs who have captured the hearts of many, including Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon!

For this session, Remedy’s owner wanted to take some photos of her to use in a dog show advertising magazine to celebrate her successful championship. She wanted to do a two-page spread so we needed to make sure there was enough empty space in the photo to cover the centerfold and binding. Check out the final ad used in the magazine below.

Dog Birthday Party Photography - By Ohio's Premiere Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

I have a tradition of doing birthday photos every year of my own dogs on their birthday to celebrate. I try to make the theme different every year, and also use it as an opportunity to get a little creative! Today I wanted to share with you my youngest corgi Brisket’s birthday photos. Brisket turned 3 this year, and you may not know this, but he’s not actually a dog—he’s really 3 possums stacked on top of each other in a trench coat…inside a corgi’s body.

This year I went with a color explosion for the party theme. I wanted a vibrant color pallet, reminiscent of Lisa Frank’s style for my puppy’s 3rd birthday party.

Of course I can’t just share this year’s photos without also including his last 2 birthdays as well. For his 1st and 2nd birthdays, I wanted to go with something simple, since he was still very much a puppy and not interested in modeling for me. Now that he’s older he is obsessed with getting his picture taken.

Ohio Commercial Pet Photography Shoot - Beer Can Label for Columbus Brewery by Holly Hildreth

For the past few years, I have been fortunate to be a part of super a unique and popular fundraiser contest in support of RESCUEDohio, a Columbus, Ohio-based dog rescue organization I volunteer with. For this contest, people submitted pictures of their dogs and got friends and family to “vote” for them for the chance to be the new face of 3 Seventh Son Brewing beer cans! Each “vote” was a $1 donation to RescuedOhio. Through this contest we raised over $37.5k for RescuedOhio!!! These funds will go to helping provide medical treatment, housing and supplies, and adoption services to homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected dogs and puppies here in Central Ohio.

After the contest ended, I photographed the top 3 winning dogs for their beer label. I just love how these turned out. Take a look at how good Georgie, Winry, and Buddy look on the cans! We went with bold, primary colors, as they look super eye-catching when in a 6-pack.

To celebrate the release, Seventh Son Brewing threw a release party. To build excitement and get the word out, I did a photo shoot with the 4th place winner at the brewery. We used these photos across social media to help bring awareness to our campaign.

Valentine's Day Themed Dog Photoshoot by Ohio Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth by Holly Hildreth

Adorable Valentine’s Day Puppy Portraits

A big round of a-paws for Rigby and Brisket being the best doggy models

While I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s day, I decided that my two corgis needed a Valentine's-themed shoot anyway. I knew I wanted to try something new, and decided to create my own background and set for this photo shoot. The inspiration came when I realized I needed to cut off and toss some seamless paper that got thoroughly scuffed up from use, but instead of just throwing it away, I had arts and crafts time! I cut hearts out of the used paper and taped them onto a clean roll of seamless with painter’s tape. The result was a super-festive, greeting-card worthy set of photos of my pups that you can’t help but smile about

Ohio Commercial Dog Photography Shoot - Shetland Sheepdogs by Holly Hildreth

Professional Pet Photo of a spooky scene featuring a Sheltie puppy on a foggy autumn night in Ohio.

I recently had the pleasure of doing a multi-dog photoshoot for a commercial client looking to license some photos of Shetland Sheepdogs for their products. I put out a model call over on my facebook page. I quickly got connected with Érable Shetland Sheepdogs, who brought me these 4 amazingly-well behaved Shelties. We had our session at New Albany’s Rose Run Park. Although we had a gloomy fall day to work with, that didn't stop these pups from shining bright. Plus the moodier lighting felt perfectly fitting for this October photoshoot.

Columbus, Ohio, Commercial Dog Photography - Parachute Home National Dog Day Campaign by Holly Hildreth

One of the things that has helped me develop my photographic style as a pet photographer, is my background in commercial photography! Any time I am able to combine commercial lighting and styling with photographing pets—I’m in heaven. So when Parachute Home reached out and asked me if I would join them again this year for their annual Puppy Party on National Dog Dog at their new Easton location, I was so excited! We had a great turn out, and created some beautiful product photos featuring our puppy party guests for Parachute’s campaign.

Why Your Pet Business NEEDS Custom Commercial Animal Photography by Holly Hildreth

Commercial pet photography of a smiling woman holding a mixed breed dog modeling a bowtie in Ohio

While most of my blog posts here are of private client sessions, I also offer commercial pet photography services. Whether you are a small business making dog bandanas at home, a grooming salon looking to grow your client base, or are well-established pet supply chain, custom commercial animal photography of YOUR business and products is an excellent way to elevate your brand.

Research shows that 60% of consumers are more likely to contact a business that has high-end professional photos on their website and social media. Additionally, 90% of online shoppers say high quality, professional images are the most important factor when considering a purchase. As a result, not having these kinds of photos could be a deal-breaker for your clients, which in turn costs you business.

Some folks turn to stock photography for their marketing and website needs. But, you may want to reconsider. Eye-tracking research shows that consumers tend to ignore stock photos and "filler content" images. Generic stock photos can make your brand feel impersonal, cold, and less trustworthy. Plus, stock photos aren't exclusive or unique to you, meaning your competition could be using the exact same photos on their website! This makes it so much harder to stand out to prospective customers, especially in a highly competitive market.

If you are ready to invest in a custom commercial animal photography session for your pet business, contact me today! We'll discuss what makes your offerings unique and how to shoot that in order to make your brand stand apart from the competition. If you’re ready to take the next steps and elevate your brand, contact me today.

Columbus Commercial Dog Photography - Envious Borzoi by Holly Hildreth

I have always wanted to photograph a Borzoi, so when a commercial client requested a few Borzoi images, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to finally photograph such gorgeous dogs! But you don't exactly see these Russian wolfhounds walking down the street every day, so that's why I put out a model call! Luckily I found Envious Borzoi who so kindly made the drive out from Dayton with 4 Borzoi in tow. Their dogs are simply gorgeous, super friendly, and wonderful ambassadors of the breed. During our session, we had lots of people walking by that stopped and asked to pet these beautiful pups and we even unintentionally started to draw a little crowd at one point. But that didn't stop these beautiful sighthounds from being great doggy models for me. We got so many fabulous shots during their session that it was hard to narrow it down for the sneak peek!

We had our session in one of the gardens at Whetstone Park of Roses in Clintonville. This park is always a sure bet when it comes to having loads of seasonal color. If you’re interested in setting up a session for your pups, please reach out via my contact page.

Commercial Pet Photography Shoot in Central, Ohio - English Springer and Cocker Spaniels by Holly Hildreth

English Springer Spaniel photographed by Professional Pet Photographer Holly Hildreth during a session in Alexandria, Ohio

I always love commercial shoots, as they’re just so much fun to work on. For this particular project, the client was looking for glamorous and seasonal images of English Springer Spaniels in the great outdoors. Of course I instantly knew which location to use!

This secret spot is my absolute favorite spot in the fall. It’s a little hidden gem in the Appalachian foothills, just a short drive from Columbus. Every October the trees completely carpet this creek bed with leaves, which makes for an incredible scene set against towering shale cliffs. For me when I get to combine dramatic landscapes with gorgeous dogs in a shoot—it’s just ...*chef’s kiss*

I had the pleasure of photographing Kelce and 14 week-old Tate from Windmoor English Springer Spaniels. They brought along 2 beautiful English Cocker friends as well, so of course I snapped a few shots of them too! It’s hard to pick a favorite shot from this session, as they’re all just sublime!

New Albany, Ohio, Pet Photography Studio Session - Roux the Afghan Hound by Holly Hildreth

I've had an idea for a styled shoot rolling around in my head for ages. I pictured an elegant hound, wearing a gold crown, with moody lighting in a whole renaissance era oil-painting vibe. So when Roux's owner contacted me about booking a studio shoot for her gorgeous Afghan Hound, I knew this was the right pup to be my model. I asked her owner if she'd be ok with me getting some bonus shots after the regular shoot was done, and she agreed. So we did a normal shoot, and then switched into Rembrant mode to try to make this idea a reality. It's safe to say, Roux looks like she was born to wear a crown.

A few days after the shoot, I entered the image of Roux lying down with a laurel crown to the Professional Photographers of America’s annual International Print Competition (IPC). This image received a “merit” designation, which is awarded to high caliber images. This image joined 3 other of my photos which merited, to earn me a Bronze medal in the 2022 IPC competition.

One of the things that has helped me develop my photographic style as a pet photographer, is my background in commercial photography! Any time I am able to combine commercial photography with pet photography? I’m in heaven. So when Parachute Home reached out and asked me if I would join them for their annual Puppy Party for National Dog Dog at their new Easton location, I was so excited! They asked me to photograph dogs with some of their products, like their canvas dog beds. We had a great turn out, and created some beautiful product photos featuring our puppy party guests.

Commercial Pet Photography - Columbus, Ohio, Magazine Shoot by Holly Hildreth

I absolutely LOVE working on commercial pet photography projects for clients. I recently had a fun project come up for Dogster Magazine that involved photographing some Afghan hounds for the cover of their June/July 2022 issue. Afghan hounds aren’t exactly dogs you see walking through your neighborhood every day, so I was super lucky to find two incredible dogs from Solina Hounds in Alexandria, Ohio. Owner Sophia graciously brought her Afghan Hounds, Inca and Genny, to me for their glamour shots. We wanted to have a true beauty magazine cover look complete with a fan to blow out those luscious locks. These two gorgeous ladies did not disappoint. Both models were so friendly, happy, and easy to work with that it made my job easy! Below is the final cover for Dogster, a small sampling of some of my favorite shots from this session, and a behind-the-scenes look at my set-up.
